Lower Costs

A key driver for the move to IP Telephony is the ability to deliver cost savings.Cost savings arise in three ways when voice traffic is delivered over data networks:

Lower Call Costs

In simple terms calls can be routed in such a way as to reduce or eliminate the cost of those calls. Where possible, calls are routed for some if not all of their journey over unmetered data networks including the Internet. The result is that recurring transmission costs fall.

Lower Network Maintenance

Using IPT, voice and data share a common network. There is no need for separate voice and data networks and therefore there is no need for maintenance of two networks. Research suggests a 30%-40% saving in network maintenance charges as a result.

Lower Cost of 'Adds, Moves and Changes

Traditionally, adds, moves and changes have been delivered by phone system suppliers and have generated significant revenues for the supplier. With IPT and software based PBXs these changes can be made with a few mouse-clicks by the system administrator. There is no cost and almost as important, no delay in making changes
