Least Cost Routing

PBX Server Administration
Billing Groups
Every telephone number dialled by a PBX user is compared against a database of possible
routes in real time to determine how the system should place the call.
Should a route not be found the call is placed via a default route. This default route is
essentially blank and acts as a catch-all.
The route determines which Billing Group the call should belong to; and therefore,
correspondingly, which tariff should be applied.
By default the system maintains a default route, billing group and tariff.
Each route, or possible dialled number, if it exists must belong to a billing group so that the
call may be priced and placed.
As mentioned before, if the dialled number produces no match in terms of routing, the call
is handled via the default mechanism. Should the dialled number match a route, this route
must belong to a Billing group (and its associated tariff) so that the call can be priced.
NOTE: A call will be dropped should a route exist but not be assigned to a billing group.
Remembering that all dialled numbers must follow the path outlined above.
Routed
Billed
Terminated
A Billing Group can contain one or more routes. This enables the system to maintain a
highly specific route table while the associated tariffs for these routes can be kept to a
minimum.
